SVSU Football Adds 2023 Week One Matchup with Winona State University

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University football team added a non-conference matchup with Winona State University in week one of the fall 2023 schedule.

"Coach Brady and I are pleased to secure Winona State University as the home opener for the 2023 Cardinal football season," said Angela Pohl, Interim Director of Athletics. "We look forward to welcoming WSU in this first-time meeting between our schools."

Saginaw Valley State finished 2022 with an 8-3 overall record and a 3-3 GLIAC record. SVSU spent six weeks in the top 25 rankings during the year, reaching as high as No. 17.

"Our team is really excited to host Winona State in our 2023 Season Opener," stated SVSU head football coach Ryan Brady. "Winona State is a really good opponent. This is a great opportunity to play against a top-notch team that made the NCAA Playoffs in 2022. It's an opportunity we look forward to preparing for."

Winona State qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship First Round where they fell to 4th-ranked Bemidji State to finish 8-4 overall for the season. The Warriors were co-division champions with a 5-1 mark in league play.

The Cardinals will host WSU on Thursday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m.
