WEEK EIGHT PREVIEW: No. 24 SVSU travels to Wayne State

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football team hits the road looking for the team's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season with a matchup against Wayne State University at 6 pm on Saturday in Detroit.

After a pair of losses to the top two teams in the nation, SVSU rebounded with a statement win over No. 8 University of Indianapolis last weekend on Homecoming.

The Cardinals, who led NCAA DII in takeaways a year ago, came away with four interceptions against the Greyhounds. SVSU also scored on a blocked punt as the Cardinals cruised to a 38-14 win. The victory pushed SVSU back into the NCAA DII rankings, with the Cardinals (5-2 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) checking in at No. 24 in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll.

Derrick Hinton Jr. broke out with a pair of touchdowns in the win over UIndy, including a 74-yard score. Quarterback Andrew Brito threw for 181 yards and three scores while adding 69 yards rushing.

The Warriors enter the game this weekend looking to snap a five-game losing streak. Wayne State comes in with a record of 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC after a narrow 47-43 loss to No. 22 Davenport University last weekend.
