WEEK FIVE PREVIEW: No. 17 SVSU travels to No. 2 GVSU for Battle of the Valleys

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The No. 17 Saginaw Valley State University football team rolled through the nonconference schedule and opens league play against No. 2 Grand Valley State University at 7 pm on Saturday in Allendale, Mich. 

SVSU (4-0, 0-0 GLIAC) traveled to Michigan Tech last weekend and toppled the Huskies 35-13 to remain unbeaten.
 
The Cardinals are rolling up an average of 467.2 yards per game this season, with 304.8 per game coming on the ground. Running back Isaiah Malcome continued his strong season with 20 carries for 174 yards and two scores, including a 75-yard touchdown run against MTU.
 
Derrick Hinton Jr. got going against the Huskies through the air, hauling in five passes for 82 yards and a pair of scores.
 
The SVSU defense has been outstanding through four games, allowing an average of 231.5 yards and 9.8 points per game. 
 
The Cardinals will face their toughest test of the season to open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season at No. 2 GVSU. The Lakers are 4-0 and have two wins over top-25 teams. Last week, GVSU dominated a road matchup at Wayne State University 48-9 in Detroit.
