WEEK FOUR PREVIEW: No. 19 Cardinals head north to face Huskies

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football team has rolled through the first three games of the season, outscoring opponents 147-26 in a trio of lopsided wins. The Cardinals have vaulted all the way to No. 19 in the latest AFCA NCAA DII national rankings.

This week, SVSU will take on a familiar foe, traveling to conference rival Michigan Tech for a nonconference matchup at 1 pm on Saturday from Kearly Stadium in Houghton, Mich.

SVSU traveled to Northwood last week and earned a 35-14 victory over rival Northwood University to win the annual Axe Bowl in Midland. The Cardinals rolled up a season-high 536 yards of total offense, including 248 through the air.

Senior quarterback Andrew Brito was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the first weekly honor for the Cardinals this season. Brito finished the game going 17-of-23 passing for 248 yards and two touchdowns. He added 11 carries for 110 yards including a 61-yard touchdown run.

Michigan Tech will be looking to rebound after two straight losses, including a heartbreaking defeat last weekend, that saw Midwestern State score 21 points in the final 8:30 to shock the Huskies 28-21.

Last season, Michigan Tech edged SVSU 21-20 in the final game of the season in Houghton.
