Scott, Whiteside, lead 17 Cardinals awarded All-GLIAC honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football team had 17 student-athletes earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors on Thursday following the conclusion of the regular season. 

Senior Tommy Scott was named GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year following a stellar season as running back for the Cardinals. The Muskegon, Mich. native rushed for 1,044 yards and scored 12 touchdowns which ranked second in the conference. Scott was also second in yards per game with 94.9. He earned First Team All-GLIAC honors for the second time in his career.

Nick Whiteside was named the GLIAC Defensive Back of the Year and earned First Team All-GLIAC honors. The junior from Auburn Hills, Mich. had four interceptions, tied for most in the conference, and recorded eight pass breakups for the Cardinals. Following the Cardinals road win over Texas A&M-Commerce, Whiteside was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown. This is the second time Whiteside has earned All-GLIAC in his career.

Casey Williams was named First Team All-GLIAC after recording 40 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns. It is the second time the junior from Lansing, Mich. has earned All-GLIAC honors after being named to the Second Team in 2019. 

Victor Abraham also earned First Team All-GLIAC accolades for SVSU. The senior linebacker from Canton, Mich. had 93 total tackles, ranking fourth in the conference. He also had 2.5 sacks and five tackles for loss while also recovering three fumbles, including one for a touchdown. 

Kicker Connor Luksic earned First Team All-GLIAC for the first time in his career. The junior went 19-26 on field goals, with a long of 48. Luksic was perfect on PATs, going 32-32 in that category, and recording 89 points for the Cardinals. He was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week five times this season. 

On the offensive line, Marcellus Anderson was named First Team All-GLIAC for the first time in his career.

SVSU had five players earn Second Team All-GLIAC honors on defense. Marvin White earned All-GLIAC honors for the third time in his career after tallying 39 total tackles and recording three interceptions. Javarree Jackson, Nathan Talakai, and Victor Nelson all earned honors for the first time in their careers after a stellar season on the defensive line. Tim Kidd-Glass was also named Second Team All-GLIAC for SVSU after recording two interceptions and one sack. 

Earning Second Team All-GLIAC on offense for the Cardinals was Isaiah Johnson-Mack. The senior wide receiver caught 44 passes for 561 yards and four touchdowns.

Five other players earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC for SVSU, including Chad Gailliard, Michael Woolridge, Trevor Nowaske, Noah Suber, and D.J. Summerville

The Cardinals finished the 2021 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in GLIAC play under head coach Ryan Brady.
