Schmees strong outing leads SVSU to 6-0 win over LTU

UTICA, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team posted a 6-0 shutout victory over the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Friday at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica, Mich.

With the win, SVSU is now 8-7 overall. 

Game Breakdown:

  • SVSU opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, when Jeffrey Reseigh hit an RBI single that brought home Jaccar Watkins.
  • Hayden Jatczak hit a two-run home run to left field and extended the Cardinals lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth.
  • A Todd Paperd double in the top of the fifth scored Martin Money and made it 4-0 SVSU.
  • In the top of the sixth, Connor McClennen hit a sacrifice fly and scored Andrew Burke, before Reed Raymond scored on an error by the Blue Devils.
  • Christopher Schmees earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals after pitching 8.2 shutout innings, allowing six hits, five walks, and striking out three. He was relieved by Raymond who came in and got the final out of the game for SVSU.
