UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. -- Saginaw Valley State University kicks off its annual Oppor2nity Days today through tomorrow (March 19-20). 

Scholarships remain one of the largest line items in the operating budget, so underwriting those educational opportunities are the lifeblood of every program. SVSU Athletics spends $3.1 million annually – more than one-third of its operating budget – in funding scholarships while providing educational opportunities for more than 500 student-athletes, who compete in 20 different sports at the NCAA Division 2 level.

Last fall, nearly 70 percent of our 512 student-athletes posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher, with 41 percent scoring 3.5 or above. Seventeen of our intercollegiate sports maintained a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The overall composite student-athlete GPA was 3.17 for the fall semester. In addition, 31 student-athletes graduated in December.
