Will Stanton enters his 21st season at the helm of the Cardinal volleyball squad. Stanton has developed the SVSU volleyball program and made it one of the premiere programs in the GLIAC and the region.

The Cardinals finished 2022 with a 10-20 overall mark and a 5-13 record in GLIAC play. Madison Thompson was selected Second Team All-GLIAC while Peyton Gerstacker was an honorable mention.

SVSU finished the 2021 fall season with 16-11 overall record and an 8-7 mark in GLIAC play. Stanton coached Sarah Veale to GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors. He also oversaw Rylee Zimmer and Haley Clum earn Second Team All-GLIAC recognition. Peyton Gerstacker was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC as well. 

The 2020 season was moved to Spring 2021. SVSU finished with a 5-12 overall record and a 4-10 GLIAC record. Maria Vukaj earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors while Haley Clum was Honorable Mention All-GLIAC. The team earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the third straight year and the eighth time overall. 

In 2019, Stanton led the Cardinals to a 20-9 overall record and a 12-4 mark in GLIAC play. SVSU made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2016 season where they fell to Lewis University in the Division II Midwest Regional Quarterfinal. Four Cardinals earned All-GLIAC honors. Emily Friesl was named GLIAC Blocker of the Year and earned First Team honors at middle hitter. Sarah Tabit also earned First Team All-GLIAC honors as an outside hitter for the Cardinals as well as being named to the AVCA All-American Honorable Mention Team. Hannah Tabit landed on the All-GLIAC Second Team as a setter, while Abbie Toland earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors. Also as a team the Cardinals earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season. 

The 2018 season saw improvement from the previous season with an overall record of 19-10 and 11-5 in GLIAC play.  Emily Friesl and Sarah Tabit earned All-GLIAC First Team honors while Abbie Toland earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.  Friesl recorded 98 total blocks for the 2018 season which was eighth in the GLIAC while Tabit recorded 377 kills on the season good for sixth in the GLIAC.  Toland recorded 521 digs for the season which was good for fourth in the GLIAC.

In the 2017 season, the Cardinals posted an overall record of 6-21 and a record of 4-12 in conference play. Two Cardinals earned All-GLIAC honors including Second-Team honoree McKenzie Schuster and Honorable Mention honoree Hannah Tabit. 

During the 2016 season, the Cardinals were 20-12 overall and 11-6 in the GLIAC. Kaylee Schmidt earned All-GLIAC First-Team honors for the second year in a row. Tamara Heller and Kelly Vullucci earned All-GLIAC Second-Team honors while Emily Nieman was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team. Kelly Vellucci ranks Saginaw Valey's all-time leader in assists with 3,927 for her career. The Cardinals fell in both the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and the Midwest Regional semifinals to Ferris State. Kaylee Schmidt also earned AVCA All-Midwest Regional Honorable Mention honors. 

In the 2015 season, the Cardinals were 22-9 overall and 12-6 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley competed in its fourth ever NCAA DII Tournament and surpassed the 20 win mark for the fifth time. The Cards graduate just two student-athletes from this year; middle hitter Morgan Eddy and the 2015 GLIAC Libero of the Year and Second Team All-Midwest Region honoree, Brooke Tiller. Juniors Kelly Vellucci and Kaylee Schmidt earned All-GLIAC First Team and fellow junior Andrea Brigham earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.

In 2014, Stanton's team went 17-11 overall and had a GLIAC record of 12-6. They ended their season at the GLIAC Semifinals against Grand Valley 3-0. Staton's squad did well this season, having 4 players named to All-GLIAC honors. Senior, Mackenzie Frodle, earned several individual awards, including CapitalOne Academic All-America Volleyball Second Team. SVSU Volleyball lost 5 of its seniors for the 2015 season.

In the 2013 Stanton's squad bounced back to post a 17-13 overall record with a 9-9 record in the GLIAC after finishing 11-19 in the 2012 season.  SVSU returned much of its youth and some experience in 2014.

In 2011, Stanton led a senior-laden squad to a record of 18-11 in a history-making campaign which saw the Cardinals soar to a school record 15-4 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. SVSU hosted a first-round GLIAC tournament contest, winning the match in straight sets over Grand Valley. Stanton and the Lady Cardinals made their first appearance in the NCAA Playoffs since 2009 and the third time in four years. They lost a hard fought five-setter to #11 Ferris State.

The Cardinals recorded a 14-12 overall record in 2010 and a 9-10 mark in the GLIAC, missing out on the GLIAC Tournament by a single match.

SVSU posted a 22-10 overall record with a 12-4 mark in the GLIAC. Stanton led the Cardinals to the program's first-ever GLIAC Championship in the 2009 season and second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs, where SVSU bowed-out in the Regional Semifinals to #9 Lewis.

In 2008, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Finals, and ended the season with a 25-8 record. The America Volleyball Coaches Association's coaches of the Midwest selected Stanton as the 2008 Midwest Region "Coach of the Year". Under his leadership, the Cardinals finished the 2008 campaign ranked 24th in the nation.

One season after getting the Cardinals above .500 in 2006 for the first time in eight years, Stanton was named GLIAC "Coach of the Year" in 2007 after guiding the Cardinals to their third-best regular season record ever at 20-12, along with their just their second ever berth in the GLIAC Conference Tournament.

Stanton served as head coach at Mott Community College for four years prior to SVSU, where he led the Bears to a 116-90 record, including a 40-22 conference mark. The Bears finished in the top four in the MCCAA every year during his tenure as coach.

From 1993-2001 he was the head coach at Lake Fenton high school where he guided the team to the 1998 Michigan Class C state championship after finishing runner-up in 1997. Following the 1998 season he was named the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Stanton never had a losing season as a head coach at the high school or junior college level.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Business from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.
