Friesl and Tabit Earn All-Regional Awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team had two athletes earn All-Region honors. Friesl was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest Regional Second Team while teammate Sarah Tabit was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Midwest Regional Team.

Junior Emily Friesl was named GLIAC Blocker of the Year and earned All-GLIAC First Team honors at the middle hitter position for the 2019 season. Friesl is currently second in the GLIAC in blocks per set with 1.07 and second in the GLIAC in total blocks with 115 this season. She is No. 5 on SVSU's career block assists list with 267 and looks to move higher on that list in her senior season.

Senior Sarah Tabit has made a lasting imprint in her time as a Cardinal and has earned All-GLIAC first team honors for the Cardinals the past two season. Tabit leads the GLIAC in kills and kills per set with 466 and 4.36, respectively. She also holds career records at SVSU including the No. 3 spot for total attacks with 3,101 and is No. 5 in SVSU history for kills with 1,171.

The Cardinals received a berth in the 2019 NCAA Division II Tournament and is the program's first appearance in the postseason since the 2016 season and the sixth in the history of the program. SVSU, who are now 20-8 overall on the season, secured the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region and will play top-seeded and nationally 14th-ranked Lewis University (27-5) on Thursday, December 5. First serve for that match will be at 8:30 p.m. eastern time at Lewis's Neil Carey Arena.
