Volleyball Picked Third in 2019 GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll

GLIAC -- The SVSU Volleyball Team has been picked to finish in third place in the GLIAC North Division for the upcoming season in the 2019 Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Cardinals received 44 points, finishing 13 behind second place Michigan Tech in the North Division. Ferris State was named the division's favorite, garnering 61 points and eight first-place nods. Michigan Tech had 57 points and the other four first-place votes. Ashland received 57 points and nine first-place votes as the South Division's favorite.

2019 Saginaw Valley State Preview

The Saginaw Valley State University Volleyball team brings back a wealth of experience for the 2019 season in hopes of achieving postseason success and making a return to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Cardinals return five seniors and 11 letter winners of 15 total players in what will surely be another tough slate of matches. Head Coach Will Stanton returns for his 17th season at the helm of the program, having led the program to five NCAA tourney appearances in his career.

The Cardinals return their top-five attackers in seniors Sarah Tabit, junior Emily Friesl, sophomore Maria Vukaj, senior Reagan Moffit and junior Haley Clum. Tabit was sixth in the league with 377 kills and a figure of 3.37 kills per set. Setting them up is senior setter Hannah Tabit, who ranked sixth in the league last year with 989 helpers. Senior libero Abbie Toland will anchor the back line, returning from her junior sason where she was fourth in the GLIAC with 521 digs and third with 4.78 digs per set.  Friesl and Sarah Tabit earned All-GLIAC First Team honors last season while Toland was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.

SVSU opens its 2019 campaign on the road with a pair of non-conference tournament at Clarion University and the University of Indianapolis. The Cardinals open their GLIAC schedule on the weekend of September 20-21 with home matches versus Northwood University and Ferris State University.
