UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Volleyball team fell in O'Neill Arena Friday night to Michigan Tech, 3-0. The Huskies head to 7-2 overall with a 1-0 lead in the GLIAC. The Cardinals fall to 6-3, 0-1 in conference play.
The home opener brought much excitement for the Cardinals, as they quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead over MTU. This lead would quickly be shortened and SVSU would began to trail due to late errors in the set. Michigan Tech would take the victory, 25-19, edging out a 1-0 lead overall.
Saginaw Valley did not slow down, as they came out strong again in set two. Although, Michigan Tech's strong net action shined bright, putting a .289 % on the board, while holding the Cardinals to a .083. MTU then finished the set 25-21, heading into the break up 2-0 overall.
SVSU brought in a few fresh faces into the match in set three, with senior Lindsey Jacobs taking over in the setting position and Kristen Huebner checking in on the right side. Huebner brought a new engery to the match, posting two momentum changing kills, coming from Jacobs. The team battled hard for the remainder of the set, but the Cardinals could not hang onto the set win during the final points of action.
MTU took the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
Inside the Box Score:
- Haley Clum posted seven kills with only one error, earning herself the Meijer Player of the Match accolades for her second time this season. She added two block assists, as well
- Libero Abbie Toland led the back line with 15 digs
- Emily Friesl knocked the top spot with nine kills
- Tamara Heller added seven digs and led the team with two service aces
- Hannah Tabit notched 18 assists in two sets, while Jacobs added 13 in set three alone
