Miami Shores, Fla. — SVSU Volleyball dropped both of their matches on the final day of the Barry Classic, first with Barry University 3-0, and again against Southern Conn. St., 3-2.
The Cardinals head into the start of GLIAC play next weeekend with a 6-2 overall record.
Game One: BU - 3, SVSU - 0
Saginaw Valley was off to a rough start against the tournament hosts, Barry University, as the Buccaneers took the set one victory, 25-22. Even with 13 kills in the set for SVSU, the nine errors cost them the set, as BU edged out a 1-0 lead.
In set two, the Cardinals struggled again offensively, posting only six kills on the Buccaneers. Barry ended up pulling ahead late in the set, earning a 25-17 victory over Saginaw Valley.
Set three was very similar to the set one outcome, with SVSU again notching 13 kills, but the seven hitting errors cost them the set, 25-17.
A sound BU team along the net, who ended the with 15 total blocks, held the Cardinals to their lowest hitting percentage on the year, .074. This also gave Saginaw Valley their first loss on the year, 3-0.
Setter Hannah Tabit ended up leading the teams offense, posting a .286 attack percentage. She earned her fourth double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs, as well. Emily Friesl added six kills, hitting a .267.
Abbie Toland lead the defense for the Cardinals with 19 digs, averaging 6.33 per set. This was her best preformance at the Barry Classic statistically.
The SV team also led the match in service aces, adding six to the scorebooks while Barry was only able to add two.
Barry continues now on their perfect start to the season, 7-0, while SVSU falls to 6-1 on the year.
Game Two: SCSU 3, SVSU 2
With many fresh impact players coming into affect against Southern Conn. St., SVSU came out quickly on top of SCSU. Maria Vukaj opened up with a clean sheet in set one, recording six kills with no errors. Senior Lindsey Jacobs made her debut in the setter position, posting 12 assists.
Saginaw Valley earned the win 25-15 to edge out the 1-0 lead over the Owls.
In the opening of the second set, the Cardinals and Owls both struggled offesensively, creating a very close contest. The score remainded close until 19-19 when SCSU pulled ahead of Saginaw Valley. The Owls took the win 25-20, while SCSU held SVSU to a -.053 attack percentage, evening the count 1-1.
The Owls cleaned up their offense in set three, but the win came down to the final points. Emily Friesl impacted the Cardinals offense, posting eight kills in the third set. H. Tabit also came into the match halfway through the set and quickly notched 10 assists to help SVSU take the win, 25-22.
Saginaw Valley State's offense continued to make strives acrossed the books, notching 16 kills, but late errors in a close set costs the team the set. SCSU takes the win 25-23, making this the teams fifth five-set match this year.
Rachel Eisenhour made her debut for SVSU Volleyball during her junior season, posting the first kill of the fifth set. Although, it was then point-for-point for the rest of the match. SCSU took the set, 15-12 and the match, 3-2.
The Cardinals fall to 6-2 on the year while the the Owls head to 4-4 overall.

The Cardinals will open GLIAC play with a three-game homestand beginning with Michigan Tech on Friday, Sept. 7. First serve is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Hamiliton Gymnasium.
