Women's Tennis falls in GLIAC Tourney opener to Michigan Tech

MIDLAND -- The Cardinal Women's Tennis team opened 2019 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament action on Friday (Oct. 25) evening with a matchup against the Michigan Tech Huskies. The No. 3-seeded Huskies defeated the No. 6 Cards by a 4-0 score at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. 

Michigan Tech took the single point in doubles action after winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Maddie Miller and Taylor McLaughlin had a close one at the top spot, falling by a narrow count of 7-5. The Huskies defeated Nicole Johnson and Adiya Young at No. 3 for the decider by a 6-2 score to take the 1-0 lead into singles play. 

Tech claimed three more wins in as many finished matches in singles, as Miller fell at No. 1 6-2, 6-2 while McLaughlin dropper her No. 3 match 6-2, 6-1. Sara Neves competed at No. 5 singles, falling 6-1, 6-1 to her MTU opponent.

Up Next...

Saginaw Valley plays at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 26) in the second round of the postseason tournament. They will square-off against No. 7 seeded Ashland, which fell to No. 2 Grand Valley by a score of 4-0. The Cardinals defeated the Eagles when they met earlier this season in Midland, taking the match by a 5-2 score.
