Warriors defeat Cardinals in GLIAC matchup

MIDLAND -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team hosted Wayne State University on Sunday (Oct. 13) in a match at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. Despite some close doubles matches, the Cardinals fell to the Warriors by a 7-0 score.

The Cardinals fall to 3-5 overall and in the GLIAC while Wayne State is now 7-0 overall and in the GLIAC.

Doubles

SVSU had a couple of close matches in doubles action, as Maddie Miller and Taylor McLaughlin dropped their match at #1 doubles by a narrow 7-6 score. It was a tight contest at the #2 spot as well, with Joanne Gao and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez barely falling at 7-5. Adiya Young and Nicole Johnson dropped their match at the #3 spot, 6-1. 

Singles

Johnson had a close one at the #6 singles spot, falling in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 5-10. Sara Neves fell at #5 singles 6-4, 6-2 and Gutierrez lost at #3 6-3, 6-1. McLaughlin dropped her #2 singles match 6-2, 6-2, Gao fell 6-1, 6-3 at #2 and Miller lost her match at the top spot, 6-3, 6-0.

SVSU has its final regular season match on Sunday (Oct. 20) when it hosts Northwood University. The first serve is set for 11:00 a.m. and it will be senior day for the Cardinals.
