Women's Tennis posts 6-1 win over Purdue Northwest in GLIAC play

MIDLAND -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team defeated the Purdue Northwest University Pride on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-1 to move to 2-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in GLIAC play. The Cardinals posted three victories in doubles play before taking five of the six singles matchups for the win. 

Doubles

Maddie Miller and Taylor McLaughlin took care of business at the top spot, posting a 6-1 victory in doubles action. Joanne Gao and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez claimed their #2 doubles match 6-3 while Adiya Young and Nicole Johnson won by the same 6-3 count in the #3 doubles match.

Singles

Miller and Gao each recorded 6-1, 6-1 wins at the #1 and #2 singles spots, respectively, for the Cardinals. Gutierrez posted her win at the #4 spot 6-3, 6-2 while Johnson won 6-0, 6-3 in her #6 matchup. Neves was victorious at #5 singles as well, recording a win by a count of 6-4, 6-0. McLaughlin dropped her #3 singles match in a thriller, falling 10-8 in the third and final set. 

Up Next...

Saginaw Valley makes a trip to the U.P. to play at Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech this upcoming weekend. Saturday will be the matchup with the Lakers while the Cardinals face the Huskies on Sunday.
