No. 2 Grand Valley State defeats SVSU in league matchup

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell by a final score of 10-0 to the second-ranked team in the nation in Grand Valley State University.

The Cardinals fall to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in GLIAC play while the Lakers improved to 15-1-0 overall and remain unblemished in the GLIAC at 8-0-0. 

The Cardinals had four shots in the first half but were outscored by GVSU as the Lakers held a 4-0 lead after the first half.

SVSU improved their shot count in the second half recording five shots against the Lakers. Grand Valley State added six scores in the second half and would close the match winning 10-0.

Inside the Boxscore:

  • Whitney Flemming led the Cardinals with 3 shots in the match which brought her total for the season to 32.
  • Amy Babon recorded two shots against the Lakers and added to her season total of 24.
  • GVSU had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks in the match.
  • Ally Gaunt (2-3-0) took the loss in net, working 56:37 between the posts for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are back in action Friday (Nov. 8) as they host the Ashland Eagles at Braddock Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm. It will be senior day for the Cardinals as well. Saginaw Valley has clinched a first round home match for the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals, which will be on Sunday (Nov. 10).
