Lady Cardinals claim thrilling 1-0 overtime victory at Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS -- The SVSU Women's Soccer team registered an overtime victory at Davenport University on Sunday (Sep. 29) afternoon, using an overtime goal from Sarah Fredrick in the 96th minute to secure the win over the Panthers.

In the first 45 minutes, the Cards out-shot the Panthers by a 4-3 margin but Davenport had a 5-2 advantage in the second period. SVSU had two overtime shots, with the final one being the deciding factor as Sarah Fredrick registered her first point for the Cards with the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory. Valentina Giambanco assisted on the goal for Saginaw Valley, posting her first helper of the year.

Alyssa Watts (1-1-0) recorded the victory in net for SVSU, turning away all four shots that were on goal in the match.

From Head Coach Michael O'Neill

"Today was a tough game against a well organized and hard working Davenport side. We didn't play our best game but we were focused and did the little things well that eventually got us over the line. This is a resilient group and the response to a sub par performance against Ferris State was on display for the whole game. We must now maintain these standards as we begin our quest for a GLIAC championship on Friday."
