Joe Vogl returns to the SVSU golf program as an administrative coach. Vogl served for 14 years as head coach of the highly-successful golf program at SVSU and began leading the Cardinals for his second stint as head coach in 2008. He has also served 13 seasons as an assistant and four seasons as a player on the squad. Vogl also served as Director of Athletics at SVSU from Dec 2003 to June 2006.

Vogl earned 11 letters in five sports as a prep at Owosso St. Paul High School, including letters in football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf as a senior.

After graduating in 1971, the all-state prep linebacker enrolled at Ferris State, but an injury cut his career short. He transferred to SVSU and led the Cardinal golf team to three GLIAC titles and three NAIA national tournaments. He recorded one of the six hole-in-ones in SVSU history when he scored an ace on the 4th hole at the Rackham Golf Course in 1975. A two-time All-GLIAC and All-District selection, Vogl served as captain his senior year, leading SVSU to a 13th-place finish at the national tournament.

SVSU competed in the NAIA nationals 13 times while Vogl served as an assistant coach. When the Cardinals left the NAIA to become exclusively affiliated with NCAA, Vogl took over as head coach and led SVSU to GLIAC titles in 1996 and 1998. He was named the league's "Coach of the Year" in 1993, 1996, and 1998. He also guided the Cardinals to NCAA national tournament appearances in 1997, 1998, and 2014. He continues to play in several amateur tournaments throughout Michigan.

Vogl earned his BBA at SVSU in 1976 and his MBA in 1982. Born in Owosso on March 18, 1953, he and his wife, Susan (MA 1989), have twin sons, Dustin and Drew, who both played for their father while earning bachelor's degrees from SVSU. He has been at SVSU in some capacity since 1972.
