BIG RAPIDS -- The SVSU Women's Golf team opened tournament play for the 2017 season on Friday (Sep. 15) morning. The Lady Cardinals played the first round of the Ferris State University Bulldog Fall Preview at the Katke Golf Course. 

Saginaw Valley had a team score of 319, marking a new program low score. The previous low was a 324, which was shot twice at last year's NCAA Regional Tournament. 

Shelbe Cahill was the low scorer for the Cards, as she shot an opening round score of 78 (+6) and is in a tie for 11th place overall.

The second-lowest round on day one went to Sabrina Coffman. She shot a 79 (+7) and is tied for 17th.

Alexa Marston and Lucy Cornwell are tied for 27th overall, sitting with a nine-over total of 81. Those two scores rounded-out the scoring for SVSU after 18 holes of play. 

Annika Neumann (83) and Emily Barker (86) also competed for SVSU in the season-opening event's first round.

Saginaw Valley returns to the course for the final round of the Bulldog Fall Preview. Second round action will start Saturday (Sep. 16) morning at Katke Golf Course.
