Lady Cards collect 77-73 home victory over Panthers

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Women's Basketball team got a balanced scoring attack, as six players scored in double figures in a 77-73 home victory over the Davenport University Panthers on Saturday (Feb. 16) afternoon at O'Neill Arena.

With the win, SVSU moves to 5-19 on the season and 5-12 in the GLIAC while Davenport falls to 5-19 overall and 3-14 in league play.

Saginaw Valley came out swinging, shooting 53.3% from the floor in the opening quarter to take a 22-18 lead after 10 minutes of action. The Panthers responded with a narrow 17-15 edge in the second quarter and that sent the home team up 37-35 at the half.

The Cardinals worked their way out to a nine point lead with 6:33 on the clock when Hannah Settingsgaard hit a jumper to put the home squad ahead 46-37.

Davenport kept things close from there, eventually taking the lead back and leading by six points at 62-56 after a pair of free throws.

SVSU bounced back from there, however, and would eventually seal the deal by a final score of 77-73.
