SVSU's Second Half Surge Not Enough As NU Pulls Away with Victory, 65-50

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Women's Basketball team hosted cross town rivals, Northwood, Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon in conjunction with basketball alumni weekend. Despite a valiant second half push, the Cardinals fell 65-50 to the Timberwolves.

SVSU was off to a tight start until the Timberwolves pulled away to end the first quarter, 23-8. Maddie Barrie had six of the eight points for the Cardinals. 

Aaliah Hill contributed in the second quarter for the Cardinals, stopping Northwoods run to make the score NU 30-10. At the locker room break, the Cardinals trailed 35-18. 

In the third quarter, the SV team rallied to outscore the Timberwolves for the first time this contest, 14 to 12. Saginaw headed into the final quarter of action only trailing by 15 points, 47-32.

Hannah Settingsgaard tried her best to put the team back into the contest, scoring the last seven points in a row. 

The Cardinals fell 65-50 to the Timberwolves despite outscoring them by two points, 32-30.

Inside the Box Score: 

  • Abby Duffy is the Meijer "Player of the Game" after her impressive double-double, scoring 11 points while adding 13 rebounds and five assists.
  • Barrie led the team with 12 points. She added two boards and one assist as well. 
  • Hill and Settingsgaard added 11 points, as well. 

Up Next... 

The Cardinals will host Ferris State University on Thursday in another GLIAC matchup. Play is set to begin at 6 p.m. in O'Neill Arena.
