Duffy's Double-Double Not Enough to Take Victory Over Tritons

Lakeland, Fla. — The SVSU Women's Basketball team took on Sunshine State Conference team member, Eckerd, in an afternoon contest at the Terrace Hotel Classic. The Cardinals fell to the Tritons, 79-50, with Abby Duffy leading the charge with 16 points. 

SVSU falls to a 1-8 start on the season while Eckerd bounces back from a two game losing streak, heading to a 6-3 overall record.

In the first quarter, the Cardinals trailed 23-18, but was able to fight their way back into the contest with the senior leadership of Duffy, who posted a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) by the halftime break. 

Heading into the locker room, Saginaw Valley only trailed by five (33-28), with each team posting ten points in the second quarter. 

The Tritons stepped up their game in the second half, posting 27 points in the third quarter, holding SVSU to only 13. 

Another solid quarter for Eckerd left the Cardinals trailing for the remainder of the contest, falling 70-59. This concludes the women's teams contests until after the Christmas season, returning to action on Dec. 31 against NCAA DI opponent, Western Michigan, New Years Eve. 

Inside the Box Score: 

  • The Meijer Player of the Game goes to Duffy who posted another double-double on the season with 16 points and 14 boards. 
  • Maddie Barrie posted eight points along with two rebounds as well. 
  • Maddie Maloney led the assist column with three, while adding seven points.
  • The Cardinals hit 93% of their shots from the charity stripe, the team-high of the season.
