Six Cardinals Register Double-Figures in Win Over Tiffin

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Women's Basketball team defeated Tiffin Saturday (Jan. 20) afternoon, after what ended up being season-high night for the Cardinals. Six players end the night in double-figures, with SVSU taking the 86-61 victory over the Dragons. 

Out of the gate, Abby Duffy and Anna Hall were hot, and helped the Cardinals head to a 12-7 lead over the Dragons at the first media timeout. 

Wtih a bucket from Kaitlyn Geers, the Cardinals extended their lead, 16-7, with 2:26 to go in the quarter. 

The Dragons responded with a five point run, but Duffy's two good shots and Hannah Settingsgaard last second triple, sends the Cardinals to a 23-12 lead heading into the second quarter. 

With 8:14 to go in the half, Duffy heads into double-digit figures (11 points) with a good triple, as SVSU doubles the Dragons score, 28-14.

Saginaw Valley and Tiffin go shot for shot for five minutes, with the Cardinals leading 37-23 at the 3:06 minute mark. 

After the conclusion of the first half, Saginaw Valley headed into the locker room leading 43-25 after another solid 20 point quarter for the Lady Cards. 

Laurel Jacqmain opens the half with a triple from the far side followed by a Duffy jumpshot to send the Cardinals up 48-25 within the first 40 seconds. 

Back to back triples from Settingsgaard puts Saginaw Valley up 57-25 and ends the 14 point run for the Cardinals with 7:49 to go in the third.

Solid following few minutes, and SVSU earns their largest lead of 41 points over the Dragons with under three minutes to go in the quarter. 

The Cardinals scored a season high of 30 points in the conclusion of the third (73-37), with four SVSU players in double-figures heading into the final 10 minutes of action. 

Kierra Crockett's bucket in the fourth quarter, send her to a career-high of 12 points as the Cardinals lead 80-42 with 7:35 to go in the contest. 

With under five minutes remaining, six Lady Cards are in double figures, with Jacqmain leading the pack with 16 points. 

Even with an exceptional fourth quarter hall from the Dragons, Saginaw Valley goes on to post their season high in points in the victory over Tiffin, 86-61, in O'Neill Arena. 


Inside the Box Score: 

  • Duffy notches 15 points and nine boards, earning "meijer" player of the game honors in the victory over the Dragons
  • Jacqmain earns the team-high of 16 points. She adds six rebounds, two assists and two steals, as well. 
  • Crockett posts her career-high of 12 points and three blocks. 
  • Geers records her career-high of 12 points and eight boards. 
  • Settingsgaard and Hall each notch 10 points. Hall has a team high of five assists, as well. 
  • The Cardinals earn their season high of 86 points. 
  • SVSU shot 47.2% from the field.
  • Saginaw Valley out boarded the Dragons 49-33.
