Three Cardinals Tallied Double-Digit Figures in Win Over Davenport

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Saginaw Valley State Women's Basketball team took on newly added GLIAC member, Davenport, Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon. The Cardinals went on to defeat the Panthers, 68-58, after making an impressive second half comeback in O'Neill Arena.

SVSU and DU battled early on, with the Panthers pulling ahead 12-10 at the first quarter finish. Four of the 10 Cardinal points came from the charity stripe, while the Panthers saw no action from the free throw line. 

Anna Hall led the Cardinals in the second quarter, posting four points, two steals and two boards. With another 10 added on the board, the Cardinals headed into halftime down by five, 25-20. 

Hannah Settingsgaard opened up the second half with an impressive seven points with Laurel Jacqmain topping off the team high of five rebounds in the third quarter. Saginaw Valley went on to outscore the Panthers 22-10, leading 42-35 heading into the final 10 minutes of action. 

Davenport fought back strong in the fourth, but it was not enough to take the lead. Hall, Jacqmain and Settingsgaard, all contributed seven points each and went on to help SVSU take the victory over the Panthers, 68-58, in O'Neill Arena. 

Inside the Box Score: 

• Hall had a season-high night with 17 points and six steals on the board for the Cardinals. She added five boards and three assists, as well, earning herself "meijer" player of the game honors.
• Settingsgaard posted 16 points and five rebounds. 
• Jacqmain added 14 points and nine boards. 
Abby Duffy led the reserves with eight points and three steals. 
• Saginaw Valley earned 26 points off of the Panthers 23 turnovers. 

Post Game Interviews 

The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 6 p.m. against the number one team in the nation, Ashland. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. in O'Neill Arena.
