ROLLA, Mo. - The SVSU women's basketball team notched its first victory of the 2015-16 campaign after posting an 85-49 win over Lemoyne-Owen College on Friday evening at the GLIAC/GLVC Tournament, hosted by Missouri S&T.

The Ladies got double-digit scoring efforts from Emily Wending and Alex Green in the contest, as Wending netted a season-high 24 points and Green tallied 12.

Saginaw Valley ran out to a 16-0 lead to begin the game and didn't look back, finishing the first quarter being ahead by a 20-8 margin as Wending posted eight first frame points.

The second quarter saw the Cards continue the fine play, as SV had a decisive 23-10 advantage in that 10-minute time span as well. Wending added six more points in the second while Anna Hall, Green and Katelyn Carriers all had four points. The halftime score would be 43-18 in SVSU's favor.

Ten more points from Wending, six from Green and four from Haley Neiman led SVSU to a 25-15 score edge in the third frame, upping the lead for the Cardinals to 68-33.

The Cardinals edged-out the Magicians by a 17-16 count in the final 10 minutes of play, closing out for the 36-point win at 85-49. Kasey Nelson had six fourth quarter points while Abby Schlicher posted four.

  • Wendling led the way offensively for the Cards, netting 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting. She added nine rebounds and a pair of assists while narrowly missing out on three straight double-doubles to begin the 2015-16 campaign.
  • Green posted 12 points and a career-high six steals while playing a team-high 27 minutes.
  • Neiman had a career-best nine points in the contest, adding three boards and two assists.
  • Anna Hall added nine points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
  • Katelyn Carriers had nine points as well for SVSU, adding five rebounds, five assists, a block and three steals in her first action of the season.
  • Danielle Carriers grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for SVSU, marking a new career-high for her in that category.
  • The Lady Cardinals shot 54.5% (36-66) from the floor and held the Magicians to a mark of 30.3% (20-66).
  • SVSU led by as many as 42 points in the game, coming at the 4:20 mark of the fourth quarter with the score 80-38.
  • The Cards also posted a 49-30 edge on the glass against Lemoyne-Owen.
