SVSU Women's Basketball 'Get to Know': Shelby Herrington

SVSU Women's Basketball 'Get to Know': Shelby Herrington

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI – This month's Women's Basketball "Get to Know" spotlight is senior-to-be, Shelby Herrington. A native of Hemlock, MI, she is coming off a great junior campaign for the Cardinals and the expectations are even higher for her with the 2014-2015 season.

This past year, Herrington started 19 games, averaged 22.3 minutes per contest and was second on the team in field goal percentage at 48.4%. She also collected 127 rebounds and blocked 14 shots. Her game winning shot versus Michigan Tech on January 25, 2014 was truly a moment to remember during the season and catapulted the Cardinals into post season contention. The team would later clinch a berth into the GLIAC tournament for the second straight season and Herrington proved to be a key component to that success.

Below are a few comments from Head Coach, Jamie Pewinski, about Shelby Herrington:

"Shelby has been an unbelievable addition to our program. She came to us with a great deal of experience and immediately established herself as a person we could rely on for leadership and maturity. From the time she stepped on campus last fall, she has been consistently one of the hardest working players on our team.

What is best about Shelby is that she improved every time we played or practiced this season. I truly feel that her best basketball is ahead of her. She is a great role model for all of our players and is someone who cares about her team and coaches. I'm excited to see what next season has in store for Shelby."

Below are some of Shelby's thoughts about SVSU, her Cardinal teammates & a glimpse into what matters most outside of basketball:

Coming to SVSU was the best decision I could have made. There are so many great things that have happened to me since I have been here. I have the best teammates; we have fun, but still continue to work hard for success. Being close to home is something else that makes my time here at SVSU special. Having my friends, family, and community coming out to support SVSU Women's Basketball is PRICELESS. As I continue towards obtaining my degree in education, it is exciting to be able to work with children in my community. I love helping kids with training and sports camps.
