UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI – Throughout the 2012-13 women's basketball season, svsucardinals.com will profile one team member each month in a "Get to Know" segment.
All of the Lady Cardinals will have a chance to reflect on their time at SVSU, why they chose to come to school here and what their teammates and coaches mean to them. By doing so, fans have an opportunity to get a glimpse into each team member's background and personality. The first player to be highlighted is freshman, Mikayla Silm.

Below are some of Mikayla's thoughts about SVSU and her Cardinal teammates:
"As my first season as a college athlete approaches, I could not be more thankful that I chose the school I did. From the first day on campus I've felt like I was a part of a family here at Saginaw Valley. It is such a reassuring feeling knowing that no matter what, I have a group of teammates and coaches that always have my best interest first. We are all one; a family that helps each other and pushes each other to be our best both on and off the court."
"In addition to the basketball team, everyone on campus is extremely welcoming and willing to help in any way they can. There are so many resources on campus to help you accomplish whatever you need. Because there is always someone there to guide you, it is almost impossible to feel lost. It is the attitude of the people that surround me, my professors, coaches, teammates and fellow students that have helped me to realize what an amazing place SVSU is. I look forward to what the rest of the year holds and what we will be able to accomplish as a team. I can definitely say that I am proud to be a Cardinal!"
What is the best part of campus?
The cafeteria, the food is really good!!!
What is your favorite movie?
Well…I have two…Remember the Titans & Despicable Me
What is your favorite music group right now?
I don't have one…but I love all country music

Macaroni & cheese
Who is the best dancer on the team?
It is a toss-up between Kayla (Womack) and Katelyn (Carriere)
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My grandpa…he taught me about hard work, dedication, loyalty and perseverance
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Spending time at the lake with my family and jet skiing
What is your career ambition?
I want to become an occupational therapist and work with children
Why did you come to SVSU?
To play basketball for some great coaches…plus they have an awesome Occupational Therapy program
