Women's Basketball Falls At Hillsdale, 70-40

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team lost a 70-40 contest on the road at Hillsdale College on Saturday afternoon (2/19) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The game was scoreless until the 16:38 mark, when SVSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer by junior Marah Kyle (Bluffton, Ind.).  Hillsdale grabbed a 6-3 lead with 12:17 remaining in the half and and extended its lead to 24-7 at the 3:41 mark.  The Chargers led by a score of 32-14 heading into halftime.

The Cardinals could not overcome the deficit, as Hillsdale used a 38-26 advantage in second half scoring to close-out with the 30-point victory.

Meijer "Player of the Game" Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich.) led the Cardinals with team-highs of nine points and seven rebounds.  Sophomore Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) and freshman Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./G.P. North HS) each added eight points for the Cardinals, who fall to 7-17 overall and 4-13 in GLIAC play.  Herzog had two blocks to break the all-time school record.  She now has 140 career blocks.  Hillsdale improves to 16-7 overall and 10-7 in league play.

SVSU is back in action on Thursday (2/24) when it hosts Michigan Tech in an 8:00 pm contest.
