Cardinals Fall to No. 9 Huskies, 67-47

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to the no. 9 Huskies of Michigan Tech University today (Jan. 15), 67-47 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The Cardinals took their first lead of the game at the 13:31 mark in the first half as sophomore forward Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich./Wyoming Park HS) found an open lane for a successful lay-up to give SVSU an 8-7 advantage over the Huskies.  Green would end the afternoon with four points and a team-high eight rebounds.

SVSU would take a three point lead with 8:37 remaining in the first half of action as sophomore Jasmine Woods (Lansing, Mich./Holt HS) found an open three-point shot.  The Cardinals would however enter the locker room with the scoreboard reading 34-21 at halftime in the Huskie's favor.

Saginaw Valley would trail by 15 points early in the second half, but would cut the Michigan Tech lead to just eight with 12:54 remaining in the contest as junior Marah Kyle (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton HS) connected on a three-pointer, however the Huskies would seal the victory with a final score of 67-47.

Leading the way for Saginaw Valley was sophomore Jasmine Kennedy (Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) who posted a team-high 11 points and pulled down four rebounds while freshman guard Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) recorded seven points and three rebounds.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-10 overall on the season and 2-6 in the GLIAC while Michigan Tech moves to 13-1 overall on the season and remain undefeated, 8-0, in conference action.  Saginaw Valley will return to action this Thursday as they host Ashland University in a GLIAC match-up.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
