Lady Cardinals Fall To Wildcats, 84-72

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell on the road to the Northern Michigan University Wildcats by a score of 84-72.  The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-9 overall on the season and 2-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action while the Wildcats improve to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.

The Lady Cardinals went into halftime trailing by a score of 43-38.  Northern would out-score SVSU 41-34 in the second half to close-out with the 12 point victory, 84-72.

Sophomore Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich.) earned Meijer "Player of the Game" honors while leading the offensive charge for SVSU, notching team-highs in points (21) and rebounds (7) in the contest.  Sophomore Jasmine Kennedy (Harper Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) had 17 points for the second game in a row, matching a season-high.  Freshman Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) also reached double-figures in scoring, scoring 12 points in 28 minutes of action.  Sophomore Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) added eight points while fellow sophomore Aysha Boston (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance HS) dished-out seven assists in the contest.

SVSU shot 47.5% for the game compared to the Wildcats' 46.6%.  

The Cardinals are back in action Saturday (1/15), as they play at Michigan Tech University in another GLIAC North Division match-up.  Tip-off for that contest is set for 2:00 pm.
