SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell at Lake Superior State University on Saturday (12/18) by a score of 72-55. The loss drops the Cardinals to 3-6 overall on the season and 1-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play while the Lakers improve to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
The Cardinals trailed by a count of 42-17 heading into locker room at the half. SVSU would outscore Lake Superior by a 38-30 mark in the second half, but it was not enough, as the Lakers would close-out the contest with a 72-55 victory.
Freshman Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) earned Meijer "Player of the Game" honors after notching a career-high 20 points in the game on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. Fellow freshman Kristen Greene (Brown City, Mich.) also posted double-digits in scoring with 10 points for the Cardinals. Senior Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) had a game-high 10 rebounds for SVSU.
The Cardinals get a break until they host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers on Wednesday, December 29th in a 7:00 pm contest.
