Cardinals set three new records before championship competition

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the SVSU Tune-Up Friday (Feb. 21) and set three new school records. Lauren Huebner and Alona Olshevska set new records in the 400-meter and 60-meter races on the track while Timyah Meeks set a new record on the field in the weight throw. Huebner's 55.92 is tied for 16th in the nation and second in the GLIAC while Olshevska's 7.61 ties her for 23rd in the nation and third in the GLIAC and Meek's 19.02-meter mark moves her to 5th in the nation and 3rd in the GLIAC.

Women:

Huebner's school record setting performance in the 400-meter earned her a first place finish with a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying time of 55.92.

Olshevska improved upon her school record in the 60-meter earning a first place finish coming in with a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying time of 7.61.

Meeks placed first in the weight throw with a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark and new school record of 19.02-meters.

Teammate Ali Aldrich finished second behind Meeks with a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark of 18.77-meters moving her to 8th in the nation and seventh in the GLIAC.

Morgan Fuerst placed first in the mile run crossing the line in a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying time of 4:57.99 which ties her for 30th in the nation and seventh in the GLIAC.

Chyenne Williamson placed first in the high jump clearing a bar of 1.73-meters and is still tied for first in the nation. She also placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark of 8.79.

Men: 

Juan Bowers placed first in the 400-meter run clocking in with a season best of 49.29 while teammate Carter Eckhard earned second coming in with a final time of 49.81.

Nate McCrary placed first in the 60-meter crossing the line with a season best of 6.88 for the Cardinals.

Jordan Walters placed second in the 800-meter coming in at 1:54.11 and was followed by teammate Brendan Nesbitt who clocked in at 1:54.91.

Austen Mandernach placed first in the 3,000-meter clocking in at 8:38.68 while teammate Sam Black placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.74-meters.

The Cardinals are back in action Saturday (Feb. 29) as they hit the road to compete in the GLIAC Indoor Championships hosted by Grand Valley State University.
