BRADENTON, Fla. - Saginaw Valley State University sophomore multi athlete Sam Black earned all-american honors at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
After a stellar opening day of competition, Black finished-off his performance with a sixth place showing on day two in the decathlon. He tallied 6,982 total points for the all-american showing.
Black notched 757 points in the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.79 seconds. He added 663 points with his time of 4:42.72 in the 1,500 meters. Sam added a 4.00 meter height in the pole vault, earning him another 617 points.

The Cardinals have three athletes slated to compete on Saturday, as Ryan Kelly takes part in the shot put at 5:05 p.m., with Taylor Stepanski following with a 1,500 meters finals race at 5:35 p.m. Tom Goforth rounds-out competition for Saginaw Valley, running in the 5,000 meters at 8:30 p.m.
