Swim & Dive competes on opening day of 2020 GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Swimming & Diving teams competed on day one of the 2020 GLIAC Championships, which were hosted by Saginaw Valley at the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center. 

SVSU sits in sixth place on the women's side with 49 points and also in sixth place on the men's side with 42 points. 

Libby Caird brought the seventh-best score after the prelims into the three meter diving finals and finished in fifth place for the event, totaling a score of 403.95. She racked-up 14 points in the event.

Chelsea Fenton and Sydney Shipps finished 11th and 15th, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle B-Finals to score for the Cardinals. Fenton had a time of 10:36.24 while Shipps posted a mark of 10:42.80. 

Pedro Rezende and Isaac Inman competed in the B-Finals of the 1,000 freestyle on the men's side and scored. Rezende finished 11th with his time of 9:37.86 and Inman was 13th with his time of 9:41.44. 

Kyle Amick added points for the Cardinals in the 50 freestyle, finishing 14th in the B-Finals with a time of 21.42 seconds. Teammate Juan-Luke Hamilton scored and was 16th in the same race, turning in a time of 21.47 seconds.

The women's 200 medley relay team finished sixth with a time of 1:48.47 and the men's 200 medley relay squad was fifth with a time of 1:33.32. The women collected 26 points in the event while the men received 28.

Day two commences on Thursday, with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
