SVSU Sweeps Felician and Bridgeport in Thursday action

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Saginaw Valley Softball team moved to 12-2 overall on the season after registering another sweep on Thursday (Mar. 5), defeating Felician College and Bridgeport University. The Cardinals posted a 16-2 win over Felician in five innings before holding on for a 3-2 win over Bridgeport in the second contest.

Game #1 - Felician

The game's first run came in the top of the 1st when Sara Moos had a squeeze bunt that pushed Sarah Gersch across for the 1-0 lead. 

Four more came in the 3rd and five more in the 4th for Saginaw Valley, pushing the Cardinal lead to 10-0. Shelby Misiak, Alex Roob and Julia Salisbury had RBI for the Cards and Jackie Popko ripped her sixth home run of the season.

After the Golden Falcons scored a single run in the bottom of the 4th, SV tacked-on six more in the top of the 5th to make the score 16-2. Alyssa Muench had a two-RBI single and Alyssa Seegraves had her first collegiate hit, which was a grand slam, for the team's runs.

Felician added another single run in the bottom of the 5th and the final score finished at 16-2.

Jaclyn Groves (3-0) picked up the victory, tossing 4.0 innings. She allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Camille Gray worked the final inning, letting in one run on two hits. She had a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Misiak, Gersch, Alex Roob, Blasia Moyler and Meagan VerVaecke all had two hits in the game, with Misiak leading the way with two doubles and three RBI. VerVaecke had two doubles as well and Gersch added a triple. Popko had three RBI on her home run. Seegraves had four RBI on the grand slam as well. 

Game #2 - Bridgeport

SVSU got out in front 1-0 in the home half of the 1st when Misiak had an RBI double that pushed Moos across. 

The Cards added two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Moos had an RBI single that scored Gersch and Misiak had another RBI double to score Moos. That made the score 3-0. 

The Knights scored a run in the top of the 5th to trim the deficit to 3-1 and another in the 6th to make it 3-2. 

After getting out of a jam in the 6th, the Cardinals were able to go 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th to preserve the 3-2 win.

Misiak added two more doubles and two RBI in the victory. Moos had two hits, two runs and an RBI while Gersch had the other Cardinal hit. 

Emily Depew moved to 5-0 on the season after pitching 5.0 innings, scattering six hits and allowing a single run. She walked three and struck-out seven batters. Julia Mundy pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing  a run on three hits with a walk and strikeout.
