Softball falls twice  to Northwood in weekend action

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Softball team dropped a pair of games to Northwood University in GLIAC play on Saturday afternoon. The Timberwolves defeated SVSU by scores of 11-7 and 5-1 at the SVSU Softball Complex. 

Game 1

The Cards got a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st after a Blasia Moyler 2-run home run and SVSU led 4-3 after an Aubree Mouthaan RBI double and Shelby Misiak RBI single in the 3rd. 

SVSU added single runs in the 4th and 5th frames, using an Alicia Kolacki RBI double and a solo home run from Mouthaan. 

The Timberwolves scored six runs in the top of the 5th, however, and added another two in the 6th to take an 11-6 edge heading to the 7th. 

In the home half of the 7th, Misiak added an RBI single to put the score at 11-7, which would prove to be the final. 

Misiak went 3-4 in the opener with 2 RBI while Moyler and Mouthaan each had a pair of hits and 2 RBI. Kolacki added two hits as well, knocking-in a run. 

Kasey Bagelmann (0-2) took the loss in the circle, working 4.1 innings while allowing eight hits and eight runs (6 ER). 

Game 2

Northwood scored two runs in the top of the 4th to make the score 2-0 but the Cards got their lone run on another Moyler long ball, putting the score at 2-1. 

The Timberwolves added three more runs in the 6th inning and would close-out for the win at 5-1. 

Moyler was 2-3 in the second game, collecting her 5th home run of the season. Misiak and Jackie Popko had the other hits for the Cards, with Popko's hit going for a double.
