Softball collects two Saturday victories in West Virginia

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Softball team posted a pair of victories on Saturday night, claiming a 16-0 win over Bluefield College before posting an 11-2 win over Bluefield State in the second contest. 

Game 1

SVSU put up seven runs in the top of the 2nd, a single run in the 3rd and eight more in the 4th to account for the runs after blasting 21 hits overall. 

Alicia Kolacki continued her hot pace at the plate, going 4-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Aubree Mouthaan had three hits with a home run and scored three times. Shelby Misiak added a long ball in the game and finished with a pair of hits and three RBI. Blasia Moyler and Julia Salisbury each had two hits and two RBi, with each getting a triple and Moyler adding a double. 

Mikayla Alexandrou worked all five innings in the circle, allowing just two hits in the shutout and striking-out seven batters.

Game 2

Serving as the home team in the second contest, the Cards went for three in the 1st, two in the 2nd and 5 in the 3rd inning to take a 10-2 lead after the first three innings. 

Becky Corbett led-off the game with an inside-the-park home run while Mouthaan and Salisbury followed with RBI extra-base knocks for the Cards. 

In the 2nd, Alex Roob drove-in Alexis Cerven and Corbett scored on an error. 

After two runs from Bluefield State in the top of the 3rd, Saginaw Valley had a two-RBI double from Morgan Duda and had another two driven-in from Hannah Atwell. The Cardinals also had Katy Ratajczak score on an error. 

The final run came in the 4th when Ratajcak knocked-in Salisbury on a grounder to shortstop, putting the game at the 11-2 final score. 

Corbett had three hits and three runs with an RBI and the home run for the Cards. Mouthaan and Salisbury each had two hits with an RBI while Atwell finished with the two RBI. Duda finished with the two RBI as well for Saginaw Valley. 

Julia Mundy worked for her third win of the season, tallying eight strikeouts and only a single earned run on seven hits.

SVSU returns to the field on Wednesday, March 13 at Cedarville University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Ohio in the regional tilt.
