HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Cardinal Men's Soccer team traveled to Indiana for a GLIAC match at Purdue Northwest University on Friday afternoon. After falling behind 1-0 at the 20' marker in the first period, SVSU responded with two unanswered goals to finish-off the Pride in claiming a 2-1 victory. 

Purdue Northwest got on the board for that 1-0 edge with 19:10 gone in the match, as Isaiah Nieves put it in the back of the net for the score.

SVSU responded just over 10 minutes later, as Michael Hamilton and Ryan Pierson teamed-up to assist Alex Gloshen for a goal at the 29:25 marker when he put it past the keeper on the left. 

That goal knotted the score of the contest at 1-1, carrying that score into the halftime break. SVSU had 10 shots in the first 45 minutes while the Pride had only a pair.

The Cardinals claimed their first lead of the match at the 58' mark, as Gloshen set up Liam Travers for a goal to make the score 2-1. Travers beat the keeper high, giving the visitors the edge.

That score held true throughout, with the Cards holding the Pride to only two more shots the rest of the way and sealed their first league win of the 2018 season.

• The Cardinals posted an 18-4 advantage in shots overall in the match, putting four on net compared to PNW's two shots on goal.
• Gloshen led the way with four shots, putting three on goal for the Cardinals. His goal and assist are both his first of the season in those categories.
• Travers had four shots as well, putting the one on net that he scored. He now has two goals on the season.
• Pierson's assist was his first point in an SVSU uniform. 
• Lukas Betz worked all 90 minutes in net, posting one save and allowing a goal while improving to 2-1-1 overall on the season.

"It has been a long week of self evaluation after losing last week to Parkside. We tried to get rested up and recovered in time for a long stretch of hard games. Today was more about getting the result more than anything else. We dominated long stretches of the game but just didn't put them away. I have to give respect to a well-coached PNW squad, which made it very hard for us to break them down, but it was a great relief to finally do that with Gloshen and Travers collecting goals today. I felt like our back line had only one mental slip, which led to their goal, but overall our team defending was good. From an attacking standpoint, we created plenty of opportunities and it was nice to see Gloshen put in an outstanding performance and come up with a goal and an assist to help us win! Now it's back home to rest before we head back on the road Sunday against Davenport."
