UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Men's Soccer team hosted the Parkside Rangers in the 2018 GLIAC season opener on Friday (Sep. 14) afternoon at Braddock Field. Despite firing 25 shots with eight of those on goal, SVSU couldn't find the back of the net and would fall by a narrow 1-0 count.
The first half saw the Cards shoot 14 times and hold the Rangers to four. The second half edge went 11-2 to SV as well, but the only score of the game came when Parkside's Henry Bruer headed one in the net off a Leki Prpa free-kick.
Inside the Boxscore
- Saginaw Valley had eight shots on goal while the Rangers had three.
- Michael Shaikly had two shots on net while Wladimir Babaew, Omar Sinclair, Pablo Ortiz, Brian Sockow, Joe Wright and Liam Travers all had one.
- Lukas Betz (1-1-1) took his first loss between the posts, allowing one goal with a save in 90 minutes of action.
- Parkside's Juan Gonzalez had a shutout after making eight saves for the Rangers in the victory.
