AXTELL, Neb. - The SVSU Men's Golf Team posted a great opening day at the 2017 NCAA Division II Super Regionals, sitting in third place overall after a team score of 280 (-8) at the Awarii Dunes Golf Course.
The Cardinals sit just one stroke back of Lindenwood University and eight back of Central Missouri, which leads at 16-under par. The score of 280 is a season-best for SVSU.
Austin Carter paced the Cards with a career-low score of 67 (-5), sitting in 3rd place overall after day one. The five-under score tops his previous best of 70, which he has posted three times for SVSU.
Dustin Pumford carded a 70 (-2) for Saginaw Valley as well, besting his career-low round by one stroke.
Mason Motte went under par for SVSU on day one, notching a score of 71 on the par 72, 7,001-yard layout.
Ryan Peruski scored an even par score of 72, rounding-out the scoring for the Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley returns to action at 8:35 a.m. central time Tuesday on the links, looking to improve on the solid opening day. The top four teams advance on to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
