The 2021-22 season was filled with success, as the Cardinals were named GLIAC South Division Champions after going 19-11 overall and 12-8 in GLIAC play. On November 18, the Cardinals earned the program’s first-ever win against a Division I opponent, with an 80-63 win over Western Michigan University. The Cardinals defeated Grand Valley State University three times during the season and advanced to the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament before falling to tournament champion Davenport. Delano Smith earned First Team All-GLIAC honors, while Tyler Witz and Darnell Hoskins Jr. earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors. Hoskins earned GLIAC All-Tournament team honors as well. In 2020-21, Huckeby was part of the Cardinal coaching staff that took SVSU to the GLIAC Semifinals. Delano Smith and Myles Belyeu earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors.

He helped lead the Cardinals to 16 victories in the 2019-20 campaign and an appearance in the 2020 GLIAC Tournament.

Sophomore guard Myles Belyeu garnered All-GLIAC First Team honors, while junior guard Malik Ellison was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Belyeu was also named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team and NABC All-District Second Team.

Huckeby came to Saginaw Valley after serving as the assistant men's basketball coach at Northwood University for six seasons. He spent the previous three seasons before Northwood as an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State under head coach Frankie Smith. He helped the Cardinals reach the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in more than 10 years in 2010 in his first stint with SVSU.

He went 117-45 in seven seasons, winning five conference, four sectional, and two regional championships. His 2001 team was the state runner-up.
