Cardinals Fall to the Bulldogs, 107-83

BIG RAPIDS — The SVSU Men's Basketball team took on Ferris State Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon. The Cardinals trailed early at the half 53-37, with the Bulldogs taking the victory 107-83 in Jim Wink Arena. 

Saginaw Valley State had a 6-5 lead in the first half until Ferris State went on a 14 point run to go up 19-6 with 15 minutes remaining. 

Even with Mike Wells Jr. (12) and center Sebastiano Lamonato (11) hitting double-digit figures early on, the Cardinals trailed 53-37 at the halftime break.

Wells continued his hot streak in the second half, posting 15 points and three boards. DJ Hoskins also stepped up his play, notching 10 of his total 12 points. 

With the Bulldogs continuing to lead the Cardinals for the remainder of the game, SVSU headed to their third straight loss, with FSU taking the 107-83 victory Saturday afternoon. 

Inside the Box Score: 

  • Wells contributed a team-high of 27 points. He added four rebounds and two assists as well, earning "meijer" player of the game accolades. 
  • Lamonato notched his career-high 19 points and tied the team-high of eight boards with teammate Liam Evans
  • Fred John Jr. added 13 points, five boards and the teams only block. 
  • Reserve Malik Garner led the team with six assists.
  • Hoskins had 12 points, as well.

The Cardinals will return home to face Michigan Tech on Thursday (Feb. 8) at 8 p.m. in O'Neill Arena following the conclusion of the women's game at 6 p.m.
