Black, Mayner Play in East Coast Bowl 27-0 VictoryDecember 03, 2008PETERSBURG, VA. - Two seniors from Saginaw Valleys football team represented the Cardinals in the eighth annual East Coast Bowl in Petersburg, Va. Offensive center, Desi Mayner (Gaines, Mich. / Linden HS) and defensive back, Matt Black (Toronto, Ont. / Northern SS) both played for the South team, helping to defeat the North, 27-0; the first shutout in the history of the East Coast Bowl.

12 Cardinals Named to All-GLIAC Football Teams for 2008November 13, 2008BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University had 12 members of its football team selected to All-GLIAC teams for their play on the field during the 2008 season. The Cardinals finished the season 7-3 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC and in a tie for third place in the conference.

SVSU to Host "Take a Kid to a Game Day" and "Community Youth Day" This weekendOctober 01, 2008UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. Saginaw Valley State University invites all area children to attend their upcoming football game at noon, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, against the Tiffin University Dragons. Children have the opportunity to experience a college football game as the Cardinals hosts NCAA Footballs eleventh annual Take A Kid to the Game (TAKG) program presented by Coca-Cola and sponsored by other Corporate Champions, AT&T and Pontiac. Kids, ages fourteen and younger, will receive a free ticket with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket, to watch the Cardinals at Wickes Field. In conjunction with Take a Kid to the Game Day, SVSU will host a free basketball Community Youth Day event in which children in grades K-8 will have a chance to learn skills from basketball coaches Frankie Smith and Shannon Baugh, and athletes from their respective teams at 10:30 a.m. in ONeill Arena.

Cardinals to Unveil New Look in 2008August 25, 2008UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - A new coach, staff, and defense will not be the only new additions walking the sidelines for the Cardinals this fall. SVSU unveiled their new Nike uniforms that they will wear during the 2008 season. The new look will hit the field for action on September 6 when the Cardinals host Wayne State in the season opener at noon in Wickes Stadium.
