John Pike officially started his duties in the Athletic Department at Saginaw Valley State University on April 2, 2015.  Pike will serve the Cardinals as Game Day and Athletic Operations Manager.  

In July 2011, Coach Pike moved to the Tri-Cities where he spent 2 years as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Delta College.  In December of 2012, Pike served as Office Professional for the Delta College Athletic Department for 2 ½ years.  Coach Pike spent the 2014-2015 basketball season as Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Bay City Western High School. 

In 1985 Coach Pike was named Associate Director of Athletics, Head Men’s Basketball  Coach, and Head Men’s/Women’s  Track & Field Coach at the United States Military Academy Prep School.  In 1988, Coach Pike spent a season coaching professional basketball, serving as assistant coach to Henry Bibby and the Jersey Shore Bucs of the United States Basketball League.  That Bucs team sent Eddie Lee Wilkins (Knicks) & AJ Wynder (Celtics) on to the NBA.  Coach Pike has had numerous basketball articles published in several national coaching periodicals and hosted numerous individual and team coaching clinics in the Northeast and Midwest during his career.  Pike retired from USMA/USMAPS with 26 years of federal service in June, 2011.

Coach Pike began his coaching career in 1977 for the Bad Axe Public Schools.  He served as Head Varsity Girls Basketball coach from 1979-1981 winning a Class C District Championship in 1981.  Pike served as Head Varsity Boys Basketball coach from 1980-1982.  In 1982 Coach Pike made the jump to college coaching, serving as Assistant Basketball Coach @ Houston Baptist University.  In 1984 HBU won both the Trans America conference & tournament championships.  The later championship qualified HBU for the Division I NCAA Basketball Tournament.  Pike is a 2009 Bay County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee.  

Pike is a 1975 graduate of Delta College, where he served as team captain and earned MCCAA All-League honors for the Men’s Basketball team.  In 1977 Pike earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology & Physical Education from Hillsdale College and served as team captain for the Men’s Basketball team.  In 1983 he earned his Master of Arts degree in Physical Education from Central Michigan University.  He and his wife, Betsy, reside in Auburn.
