Cardinals Drop Series to Northwood on Saturday

Game One: NU 20 - SVSU 3

The Timberwolves came out in the top of the first to take the lead 1-0 over the Cardinals. Saginaw Valley responded in the bottom of the inning to tie the contest, 1-1, with Quincy Jones struck out swinging, RBI, while Jordan Swiss stole home.

Northwood went on to score 11 runs in the next five innings, to lead 12-1. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Derrek Clyde sent a double down to left field, plating teammate Dean Marais, to trail 12-2. 

Eight more runs between the last three innings finalized the count for the Timberwolves at 20 runs. 

Andrew Burke ended the scoring played for the Cardinals in the bottom of the ninth with a single to right center, scoring Cole Brooks

Due to the darkness, Friday's contest was post-poned with one out remaining and Clyde up to bat with a one-one count. 

Clyde finished the contest flying out to left field, with Saginaw Valley dropping game one of the series, 20-3. 

Amani Godfrey (L, 4-3) took the loss for the Cardinals, working 1.1 innings, while Ian Dimitrie (W, 9-2) took the win, pitching seven innings, striking out seven. 

NU lead the series 1-0 heading into the doubleheader Saturday (May 5) afternoon.

Game Two: NU 24 - SVSU 1

Northwood came out hot in the first five innings of play, notching 17 runs, while holding SVSU to only three hits. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jon Quinlan came in and homered to left field, to trail 17-1 at the bottom of the fifth. This would be the only run scored in the contest. 

Five more runs for the Timberwolves leaves the Cardinals with their second loss of the day, 24-1. 

Mason Schwellenbach (L, 3-7) took the loss on the evening, pitching 2.1 innings, striking out three batters. 

The Timberwolves Tyler Jandron (W, 8-2) ended with his eighth win on the season, working six innings, striking out three. 

Timberwolves led the series, 2-0, heading into the final contest Saturday afternoon. 

Game Three: NU 12 - SVSU 2 

The Timberwolves came out in the first inning with back-to-back homers to take the lead 2-0. They added a grand slam and a solo run in the second, as well, to go up 7-0, heading into the bottom of the inning. 

Dean Marais' single to left field ended up scoring Jordan Swiss and Collin Winters to cut the lead to five heading into the fourth inning of play. These would end up being the only runs scored for SVSU in game two of the doubleheader. 

Five more runs for NU lead the Timberwolves to a 12-2 win and a GLIAC Co-Champion spot with Davenport. 

The Cardinals drop the series, 3-0, heading into tomorrow's finale contest of the regualar season. 

Alex Millhisler (L, 1-8) took the loss, working 5.1 innings with one strikeout. 

Jake Gross (W, 2-3) ended with a win for the Northwood Timberwolves, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing six hits with one strikeout.

The Cardinals will finish their regular season games on Sunday (May 6) afternoon against the Timberwolves. SVSU will be recognizing their lone senior, Brian Feinauer, before the contest begins.
