SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Whitney Fleming

SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Whitney Fleming

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

Next up in our series is Women's Soccer student-athlete Whitney Fleming. Fleming is a native of New Baltimore, Michigan who has been a member of the program for the past five years. She has played in 48 career matches, starting 11 of those. Whitney scored eight goals and added five assists in her time for the Cardinals, with four of those goals being game-winners. She helped lead the team to an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Division II Tournament and two appearances in the GLIAC Tournament title match.

It's hard for Whitney to pick a favorite memory from her time at SVSU and five amazing years, but she said the scavenger hunt in downtown Chicago during preseason was one of her favorites. Her favorite road trip was when Bay House took over the back of the bus and had their 'Bay House Book Club.'

Fleming's favorite spot on campus is the Herremans Family Weight Room. Whitney is an exercise science major with a minor in athletic coaching. She graduated this past week with her bachelor's degree. She plans on continuing to be involved in college athletics, coaching in the SVSU weight room while earning a master's degree in public health.

Whitney Fleming on her time as a student-athlete at Saginaw Valley State University

"Playing soccer at SVSU made me grow into a confident, strong and motivated person from every experience I was fortunate to go through and I've gained some lifelong friends along the way. I am thankful that my friends and coaches stuck by my side during the hardest times when learning to adjust to college soccer. And I am even more thankful for all of the support from my parents and sister through these five years. I would do it all again in a heartbeat if I could!"

SVSU Women's Soccer Head Coach Michael O'Neill on Whitney Fleming...

"Whit is a player who has made great strides in her time here at SVSU. Her resilience and tenacity have both been key components in her success here and I'm extremely proud to see her graduate from this program. There is never a dull moment with Whit and her big personality will be missed tremendously."
