SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Allison Sims

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

Next up in our series is Women's Soccer student-athlete Allison Sims. Allison is a native of DeWitt, Michigan and has played for the Cardinals the past four seasons. She is a midfielder who played in 73 career matches, with 31 of those being starts. The tallied three goals and eight assists in her career, with seven of those helpers coming in her final 2019 campaign. Sims was a catalyst in helping lead the Cards to the 2018 NCAA Division II Tournament and a pair of appearances in the GLIAC Tournament championship match.

Allison says that she has made a lot of great memories in her four years at SVSU. Most of her favorites come from the road trips on the buses, hotels and most importantly the team's trip to the U.P. this past 2019 fall. The trip to Northern Michigan was her favorite road trip. Her favorite on-field memory was when the Cardinals competed in the NCAA Tournament in her junior season (2018).

Allison's favorite spot on campus is the Ryder Center. She is a communication major with a minor in professional & technical writing and sociology. She is slated to graduate in August 2020. Sims would love to work in the sports industry in the future.

Outside of athletics, Sims enjoys going up north with friends in the summer and boating or laying out on the beach.

Allison Sims on her time as a student-athlete at Saginaw Valley State University

"I just want to thank all of the administration, Coach O'Neill and all of the other coaches I have worked with in my four years who have made these years nothing short of amazing! I also want to thank my teammates, who have continued to support me and push me to be the best athlete I could. Most importantly, I want to thank my class, which has been there with me through this entire journey. They are my forever friends and I will cherish the amazing memories we have all made during our time here."

SVSU Women's Soccer Head Coach Michael O'Neill on Allison Sims...

"Al is a tremendous soccer player and her qualities have allowed our program to play a very appealing brand of soccer. She is probably the most two-footed player I have coached and can pick a pass with either foot from any distance. We will miss Al's positivity around the locker room and her ability to make people smile."
