SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Sam Warren

SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Sam Warren

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

Next up in our series is Women's Track & Field student-athlete Sam Warren. Sam is a native of Chesterton, Indiana and has been a sprinter for the Cardinals the past four seasons.

Sam's favorite memory while competing for Saginaw Valley State University was when she finally reached her 200 meter dash PR goal in California her sophomore year. She always enjoyed her teammates pushing each other through hard fall conditioning workouts and laughing together afterwards as well.

Her favorite road trip of her collegiate career was when the team had a seven hour bus ride to Kentucky for the Bellarmine Invitational her freshman year. She didn't get any homework done that weekend but remembers laughing a lot with her teammates.

Warren's favorite spot on campus is the Cardinal Commons. She is an elementary education major who is set to graduate in December 2021. After graduation, she plans on finding a position as an elementary school teacher in a district where she would be able to coach track and field as well.

Outside of athletics, Sam loves photography and painting when time allows. She likes how calm she feels when she makes art and allows her to zone-out a little bit while her hands stay busy. It's also really gratifying when she ends up being pleased with the results.

SVSU Track & Field Head Coach Rod Cowan on Sam Warren...

"Sam was one of the most versatile student-athletes in her class. She was a speed and power athlete that could sprint 100 to 400 meters, she could run the sprint relays and she could compete in the horizontal jumps. In addition to being very versatile, she was also extremely dedicated and hardworking. She was part of a group of upperclassmen that really set a tone for moving the program forward. Sam's can-do never-fail attitude will be missed!"
