SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Matthew Malgi

SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Matthew Malgi

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com over the next few weeks to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

We continue our series today with a feature of Matthew Malgi. Malgi is a native of Toronto, Ontario and has been a member of the Cardinal Baseball team since the 2015-16 academic year. Matthew is a catcher / infielder for SVSU.

Malgi's best memories while playing for the Cardinals are when the team got the opportunity to play at Comerica Park in the 2019 season and the team's run to the GLIAC Tournament championship game as the No. 6 seed in 2019.

His favorite road trip while competing for the Cardinals was this past spring break trip to Florida, where Saginaw Valley capped-off competition for the season and had an 8-5 overall mark after the trip.

Matthew graduated this past December with his bachelor's of business administration in marketing. He is set to get his master's of business administration degree in May, 2021.

SVSU Baseball Head Coach Steve Jaksa on Matthew Malgi...

"Matthew Malgi is the true epitome of a team player. He proved to be an excellent leader for us when he played and more importantly with his off-field leadership he demonstrated. He was always a catatlyst in making sure our players bought-in on the team concept from top to bottom. He is a tremendous student and will be a tremendous leader in whatever he chooses to pursue career-wise. I have a tremendouse amount of respect and appreciation for everything he did for our program during my short time here as a coach!"
