Mariah Cook Receives the NSCA 2020 All-American Athlete Award

Colorado Springs, CO - The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce SVSU senior Women's Basketball student-athlete Mariah Cook as a 2020 All-American Athlete Award recipient. This award recognizes Cook's athletic accomplishments and her dedication to strength and conditioning. Nominated by Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Chris Winter, Cook's determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence is a great model for all student-athletes at Saginaw Valley State University

"We are proud to have Coach Winter join the NSCA in its mission to safely improve athletic performance," says Eric McMahon, NSCA's Coaching Program Manager, "Supporting our student-athletes like Mariah guarantees a stronger future for the NSCA."

Coach Winter added his thoughts on Cook's honor and her dedication as a Saginaw Valley State University Student-Athlete...

"Mariah models all the characteristics of an NSCA All-American in every way.  Mariah made a four year investment in her physical and mental preparation as a student-athlete at SVSU and it paid-off for her during her senior campaign. She was a consistent leader and model for others to follow, and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to coach her."

Cook recently completed her career as a guard on the Women's Basketball team in 2019-20 and became a full-time starter for the team. She averaged career-highs in points for the season and established new single game career-highs three different times. She scored in double-figures in six games this past winter and was a stellar 85.5% from the free throw line for the Cardinals.
